Prenatal Yoga Training

Prenatal Yoga Training

Childbirth preparation training seeks to provide the mother-to-be with simple yet effective tools that can be used before, and during, the moment of birth to ease the process and improve the experience.

Yoga is a physical activity that can be extremely beneficial for pregnant women, when performed under the watchful eyes of a professional who knows how to guide them and point out the appropriate postures that'll help alleviate stress, improve breathing, and strengthen the muscles.

What is prenatal yoga?

Prenatal yoga is a discipline that consists of physical and respiratory exercises adapted for pregnant women, which can be practiced from the fourth month of pregnancy. Its objective is to help you understand your body during this period, and to communicate with your baby.

Benefits of prenatal yoga training

The benefits of prenatal yoga training for pregnant women have been widely studied, and the conclusions drawn indicate that they are numerous. From helping the mother-to-be prepare her muscles, to allowing her to adapt her mindset to the moment of the birth, prenatal yoga is an excellent alternative for both, the mom and the child.

Some advantages of this discipline are listed below:

  • Stress reduction for the mother-to-be
Yoga helps the mother-to-be to relax, soothing any moments of stress or anxiety that may arise during pregnancy.
  • Enhancement of breathing skills
Breathing skills can make a big difference during stressful moments, like those involving contractions, as well as the time of delivery itself. During prenatal yoga training sessions, pregnant women learn breathing techniques that can be useful at the time of delivery.
  • Correction of the posture
Yoga helps pregnant women to achieve correct posture, stretching and relieving back pain and positioning the spine properly.
  • Muscle toning
Regular practise of this discipline will help you to tone your muscles, which'll facilitate both, pregnancy and postpartum.
  • Elasticity improvement
This is especially useful with regard to the elasticity of the uterine area, helping to ease contractions and facilitate the passage of the baby at the time of delivery.

Positions to avoid and other precautions

Just like any other physical discipline, prenatal yoga enthusiasts must consider certain precautions:

  • Make sure to get your doctor’s approval before doing prenatal yoga if you have an increased risk of preterm birth, or if you have specific medical conditions such as heart disease or back problems
  • Moderate the pace; you should be able to talk during the training. If you can’t, maybe you’re over-pushing yourself
  • For certain poses, bend from the hips, as the idea is to keep a normal curvature of your spine. Don’t lie on your stomach or back, and avoid putting pressure on your abdomen
